Chiefs aim to settle scores with Tornado

As the ABC Motsepe League is set to commence with the second round, Bizana Pondo Chiefs have a score to settle with Tornado when the two sides meet at the Mqeshwa Sports Fields in Bizana on Saturday afternoon.

The Mdantsane-based thirdtier league defending champions gave Chiefs a tough time in the first round, after they beat Chiefs twice – home and away.

During their last encounter Chiefs lost 2-1 to Tornado, and before that match-up Chiefs also lost 1-0 at home.

Now Chiefs general manager Loyiso “Tsutsu” Jokweni said his charges would search for revenge and nothing short of a victory would suffice when they welcome Tornado.

“We have been playing in festive season tournaments, hence I think we are prepared for this difficult task at hand,” said Jokweni.

“There are no injuries and everybody is ready to work hard so we can secure maximum points.

“In those two games we lost to Tornado it was just small errors that cost. We were supposed to have won those games.

“But that’s the past and now we are focusing on this upcoming game.’’

Jokweni said although they respected Tornado the one point difference between the two sides would put both teams under pressure.

Chiefs remain second on the log with 25 points, while Tornado is at the summit of the standings with 26 points.

“I believe we did everything right in the first round of the season. We were just unfortunate to have failed to score goals.

“But now we have all the fire power we need to destabilise them, and we know they are coming for a big fight.

“Plus, we are aware that this is going to be a big battle, because whoever wins will be number one on the log standings and that has to be us, Chiefs.”

As the defending champions have lost their mentor Tshepo Motseoneng [who’s now assistant coach at Chippa United], Jokweni was sceptical to think that would give his side a better chance to win.

“Congratulations to coach Motsoeneng for his appointment at our professional club. We wish him all the best. But we are not going to make the mistake of taking Tornado for granted because of his departure.’’
