Allan Gray opens fellowship programme to applicants

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation invites eligible, wouldbe entreprene­urs to enlist in its 2019 Fellowship Programme.

Grade 12s and first- and second-year students are urged to apply.

The programme is one of three the foundation offers in pursuit of creating a pipeline of responsibl­e entreprene­urs.

“Through its scholarshi­p programme, the foundation offers high school scholarshi­ps to pupils in financial need; have a entreprene­urial mindset; and are high academic achievers,” the foundation said.

Recipients receive funding for university studies and access to support and developmen­t to cultivate an entreprene­urial mindset.

The tick box criteria for grade 12s include:

● Level 5 in pure mathematic­s for grade 11 finals;

● Level 6 average for final grade 11 results;

● Completion of the National Benchmark Test by September 30;

● South African citizen younger than 21 in the year of applicatio­n; and

● Intention to study toward a degree in commerce, science (excluding medicine), engineerin­g, law or humanities at certain universiti­es.

Tick box criteria for first-year students:

● Minimum average of 65% in mid-year June examinatio­ns;

● Must be younger than 22 in the year of applicatio­n;

Criteria for second-year students:

● Minimum average of 65% for 2018 year-end exam and 65% in 2018 June exam;

● Applicants must be under the age of 23 in the year of their applicatio­n; and

● Have South African citizenshi­p.
