The Warriors were in a strong position to push on to victory in their four-day franchise series match against the WSB Cape Cobras at Newlands in Cape Town on Wednesday.

They need a further 97 runs on Thursday with seven wickets in hand.

At the crease at stumps were skipper Jon-Jon Smuts on 25 and Lesiba Ngoepe on six.

The Warriors started off well, with Gihahn Cloete, 36, and Eddie Moore, 35, adding 62 before Cloete was out to Dane Piedt, who has taken all three wickets to fall for 26 runs in 13 overs.

Earlier in the day, Warriors’ off-spinner Simon Harmer grabbed 7/89 as the Cobras were dismissed for 309 in their second innings on the third day of the match.

Resuming on their overnight score of 105/2 – one run ahead of the Warriors – middle-order batsman David Bedingham went on to score 90 before he was bowled by Harmer.

Kyle Verreynne scored a bright 56 before he was out LBW to Basheer Walters.

Harmer then accounted for Rory Kleinveldt and Lizaard Williams before wrapping up the innings by trapping Jason Smith lbw.

Smith, who has had an excellent match with two halfcenturies and a four-wicket haul in the Warriors’ first innings, had made 69 in 109 balls, including nine fours and two sixes. –
