Stadium no-brainer

The rugby field in Buffalo Flats [IG Vorster Rugby Stadium] has been dormant for years – no sporting codes can use it due to a lease agreement signed by the metro and now defunct United Rugby Club. The field is being vandalised. Yet from Mandarin Street, Buffalo Flats, until Egoli/East Bank Township, there is no field available for soccer players to use. How is this possible? That a venue is standing idle and out of bounds, yet teams are desperate for a venue?

BCM could make this a multipurpose stadium by building an athletics track and soccer fields. Fence it properly and install decent lighting. Build a grandstand. I appeal to the sporting powers that be in council – sit down with the community and build a decent sporting complex in our area. It’s long overdue.
