Province’s dam levels show slight improvemen­t

There has been a slight overall improvemen­t to dam levels in the Amathole water system in the past week, although provincial dam levels have shown no improvemen­t in the past month.

The system serves Buffalo City, most of the Amathole and part of the Chris Hani district municipali­ties.

The province’s combined dam level was at 58% three weeks ago – which has not changed, according to the department of water and sanitation.

The big concern in the Amathole system is the Xilinxa dam, dropping from 25.5% last week to 22.1% this week.

Other dams in Amathole have shown signs of improvemen­t.

The Nahoon dam increased to 70.1% this week compared to 68.1% last week.

Rooikrantz dam is at 40.8% this week, as compared to 37.0% last week, although Bridle Drift dam dropped from last week’s 48.9% to 43.8% this week.

In other parts of the province, the Kouga dam has improved, with water levels at 49.3% this week, compared to 48.6% last week.

Recording an improvemen­t is Loerie dam, at 44.1% this week, compared to 39.4% last week.

Experienci­ng a decline is Impofu dam, decreasing from 32.2% last week to 31.6% this week.

Ncora dam improved from 73.5% last week to 79.0% this week, Macubeni dam is at 81.3% this week, compared to 65.8% last week, and Lubisi dam also improved from 43.6% last week to 45.5% this week.
