Amavarara are up for PE tussle

Amavarara chair Lusapho Mzwakali feels confident that his side will secure maximum points when they visit Sibanye in an ABC Motsepe League encounter at Adcock Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday evening.

Mzwakali said it was only natural that his club dropped from the summit of the logstandings in what is their first season playing at this level.

Last week, Amavarara beat Bush Bucks Academy 4-1 at the North End Stadium, a result that placed them on 33 points at seventh position on the standings, heading into the second round of the third-tier league.

Mzwakali said they would face the Port Elizabeth-outfit well prepared.

He admitted that maintaining good results became mission impossible as the race got hotter.

“At one stage when the league began we were at the summit of the log-standings. But there’s nothing wrong with our position right now.

“It’s natural that we have dropped to seventh place on the log, because [initially] we had soft opponents.

“The games got tougher and our opponents gained momentum as well,” said Mzwakali.

He still has hopes of climbing up the table by winning remaining league fixtures.

“We are not out of the race for the league title as yet, because we are seven points behind number one [Mthatha Bucks] on the standings.

“And then we still have a game in hand, meaning we are actually four points behind number one.

“As we continue with the league commitments we’ll collect more points.

“To me this means we are the seventh best team in the league for now and nothing is permanent in football.

“So now we need to start working hard so we can be better than the other six teams ahead of us.

“But I’m still sure that we will finish in the top four positions. “And that’s important to us.” He said going to play away to Sibanye, who are currently sitting at fourth position on 38 points, was a great start to their campaign as the two sides have met before this season.

“Sibanye came to us and collected three points, and now we are going to be recollecting those points in PE.

“Another team that should think of us is Mthatha Bucks, we beat them 2-1, and beat us.

“But now we are solely focusing on our game against Sibanye and the next one against Peace Makers.”

There’s nothing wrong with our results now. It’s natural that we dropped
