Border Control to shut them out

- Dispatch Racing Editor

BORDER Control can continue his winning ways when he contests the 1 200m main event at the Fairview Polytrack tomorrow.

The Grant Paddock-trained son of Elusive Fort won his last race in fine style, defeating Desert Chief by 2.25 lengths, and has proven to be something of a Poly specialist.

He has been a bit unreliable in the past, but a big weight advantage might help him overcome that trait. With only 52kg on the back, much of it in the shape of useful apprentice Khanya Sakayi, Border Control should secure his sixth career victory.

Only seven runners face the starter and there should be no shortage of drama at the death as any of the runners could conceivable bag the winner’s cheque of R64,375.

Alan Greeff-trained Aldo, with Greg Cheyne in the irons, will attract support. The fourtime winner from seven starts defeated Pacific Spirit in his last race, drawing away nicely, and has pole position here.

Dawnbreaker, with Raymond Danielson up for the Gavin Smith yard, returns from a short break and could be a serious contender if fit enough. He has won six of his 25 races for owners Ralphs Racing, and, notably, has visited the winner’s enclosure four times in his last seven starts.

Miracle Bureau has not won a race for more than a year, but could be a danger if he gets back to his best. Chase Maujean takes the ride on the seven-time winner from Tara Laing’s stable.

Breakfast Club, on his best form, can finish in the money, while Flight Captain also has the potential to upset the applecart with champion jockey Lyle Hewitson in the irons.

Alfeo has been rested and gelded and punters are advised to watch the betting.

The first of nine races on the card is off at 12:10.
