Four of the best in the final push

The Coca-Cola Schools T20 Border semifinals are finally set to be battled out on Thursday after poor weather saw a host of delays to the quarterfinals.

The champion of the Border region was already supposed to have been decided two weeks ago, but after the weekend festival that was supposed to see the quarterfinals, semifinals and final played was washed out, the quarterfinals were moved to another day, which was then washed out as well.

Teams were then asked to play their quarterfinal when it best suited them, and the final one was completed this past Monday afternoon when Selborne College defeated Queen’s College.

That put them into the last four along with the Alice Regional Performance Centre (RPC), Stirling and Hudson Park.

Alice RPC had defeated Lindani High by 60 runs, Stirling had edged Lilyfontein by just four runs, Hudson claimed a comfortable six-wicket win over Cambridge and Selborne beat Queen’s by 44 runs in the quarterfinal matchups.

The draw then threw up some excitement when it saw Runs was the winning margin as Selborne beat Queen’s in their T20 quarterfinals Hudson and Selborne matched up in the semifinals.

This will definitely be the biggest matchup as these two sides have dominated cricket on the Border for the last 10 years and they should serve up an exciting encounter.

The other semi between Stirling and Alice RPC should also be a close encounter, with both sides eager to take their chance of reaching the Border final.

The winner of the Border final will then go on to play the winner of the Kei section, and the winner of that match will take on Eastern Province champ St Andrew’s College for the chance to represent the Warriors at the national finals in Pretoria next month.

Hudson Park will also have another chance to make the national finals as they also compete in the Focus School section of the competition.

They face Graeme College in the Eastern Cape final on Friday at Fort Hare University to take another step towards representing the Focus School section.

Thursday’s semis will see Hudson host Selborne and Stirling host Alice RPC, with both games starting at 2pm.

Hudson’s match Graeme will also start on Friday in Alice. against at 2pm
