Gcwensa spreads the love

- SINO MAJANGAZA

Singer Linda Gcwensa had music lovers in the palm of his hand in East London on Saturday.

The Ndathand’umuntu hitmaker performed at the Love Thing show at the Atlantis on Saturday evening.

Speaking to the Dispatch after his performance, Gcwensa said he was humbled by the support and the love he had received.

“I have been here [East London] before, but it was not my show. The difference now is, I performed in front of the audience that came specifically to hear me sing,” he said.

Besides being a singer, he has composed popular songs like Musa’s Mthande, Sokwenzenjani by Naima Kay featuring the late Robbie Malinga and Amapleya by East London-born singing sensation, Zahara.

He said he loved writing and singing about love because he believed in it.

“There is still real love out there. There are people who love unconditionally and who appreciate and respect those they love. Basically, my music is about spreading love,” he said.

Gcwensa said he had already completed his second album

Yim’intliziyo which will be released next month.

He said the album was a mix of afro-soul and afro-jazz. “It’s all about love,” he said. Gcwensa said the album was about his personal experience and love journey.

Event organiser Viwe Mahlangabeza of Viwe M, said the purpose of the event was to bring people who believed in and celebrated love together to enjoy beautiful music.

“I then thought of someone whose music was more about love and Linda was that perfect singer,” she said.

Mahlangabeza said music played a huge role in reviving love, adding that she was looking at making the event an annually spectacle.

For Vuvu Tshazibana, the event was a perfect way of celebrating her birthday.

“It was a beautiful surprise from my husband and I enjoyed every minute of it,” she said.

She said at first, when her husband Yanga talked of a special way to celebrate her birthday, she did not think about a music show.

“The music was good, the vibe was good. It was one of the best birthday celebrations,” she said.
