Bizana ‘fail to put shooting boots on’

Bizana Pondo Chiefs assistant coach Asanda Mvalo thinks they could have scored an avalanche of goals when they beat PE Stars 2-0 in an ABC Motsepe League fixture over the weekend at Mqeshwa Sports Field.

Mvalo said his side missed a lot of chances against Stars, which have improved their goal difference, but nevertheless his charges still managed to impress him with a well-deserved win against his former captain Duran Francis’ charges. Chiefs now have 41 points, and sit at number five on the log, while Stars got relegated to fifth place and remained on 40 points.

Mvalo, who was promoted to the PSL with Francis at Bay United and is now head coach at Stars, said this was one of those difficult games that had to be won, especially since they had homeground advantage.

“They played a strong team. In the first round we beat them in Port Elizabeth.

“We did everything we could in that game, and remember that Stars are very experienced, with a good coach [Duran Francis] who has a strong technical team.

“They all know what they are doing on the pitch, and that’s why we had to tread carefully because they can be dangergerous ous,” said Mvalo.

“And they did get their chances. It’s just that our defences were rock solid and the game could have gone either way, but we were fortunate enough to have made a good lead.”

According to Mvalo, Stars fielded a team with a “good structure and they were dan- in terms of attacking.

“Those guys defend very well regardless the outcome of the game, and knowing Duran, he brought a good team, because I played alongside him at Bay United and he failed to disappoint.

“But I’m glad that we came up with two goals, although I think we could have scored more goals,” he said.

With eight games left for Chiefs in the third-tier league fixtures, Mvalo said they had all the support the team needs to finish in a good position.

“The team is getting all the support it needs from management and fans, and we, the technical team and the boys are ready to do their best.”
