Hudson Park stars in coastal cricket T20 final against Western Province Sport School in Cape Town

It was a great day for Hudson Park High School cricket this past week Friday with a number of special occasions happening for current and former cricketers.

The day started well for Hudson as their first team was in action at the Vineyard Oval in Cape Town, taking on Western Province Sport School (WPSS) in the final of the Coca-Cola Schools Coastal section.

With WPSS batting first, a superb bowling performance from Lilitha Reed dismantled the home side and had them all out for 104.

Reed picked up fantastic figures of 6/23 and claimed a hattrick to boot, giving his side a great chance of chasing down the below-par score.

The Hudson batters then didn’t let them down as they cruised to an easy eight-wicket win with Mzu Gwababa hitting 52 and Kwakhanya Gcekwa an unbeaten 40 runs.

The win meant that Hudson will now represent the Coastal Focus Schools at the Coca-Cola Schools T20 National finals against seven other sides in Pretoria next week.

Throughout the rest of the day it was the performances of former players that kept the Hudson flag waving high.

Three of their players from their impressive 2017 team, captain Sinethemba Qeshile, allrounder Jason Niemand and bowler Akhona Mnyaka, put in top performances for their respective sides all on the same day.

The 19-year-old Qeshile was brilliant in hitting his maiden Franchise century, scoring an unbeaten 121 to help the Warriors claim a seven-run win over the Lions at Buffalo Park in East London.

Mnyaka, also at just 19 years old, was then involved in the same competition but playing for the Cape Cobras in CT and although his side did not come out on top in the match against the Titans, he impressed by picking up 3/57 in 10 overs including the prized wicket of Aiden Markram for 169.

Niemand was then in action for the Border semi-professional team, which he has captained this season at just 20 years old, in Bloemfontein against Free State and made his own bit of history by bringing up his maiden first-class century, eventually going out for 107 in a match that Border drew.

In all it was a very special day for Hudson and gave a nod towards the great work being done over the past few years.
