Another busy sporting year has already begun for the bustling Trennerys Hotel at Qolora Mouth on the Wild Coast.

The venue has over the years become a popular destination for a number of outdoor sporting events and even attracts people from around the country.

From fishing, to mountain biking and Enduro, the events are always family-friendly and bring in a good crowd.

“It is going to be a flat out year again for us,” said Trennerys general manager, Sherwin Carr.

“We have some massive events over the year and we are really looking forward to what is coming up.

“We have the Fun Enduro in May which has become a really popular event that brings a lot of people down, so that is always a great weekend.

“Then we have a Mountain Bike Challenge in June which we started over the last few years, and we hope to keep building its popularity over the coming years.

“After that there is an event which we only started last year, but is already turning out to be a massive drawcard. It is the Hard Enduro, which is a GPS all navigational Enduro taking place in August.

“Its inaugural showing received a great reception and we have already received more than a hundred entries for it and are expecting even more.”

The sporting action officially kicked off for the year late last month when over a hundred anglers descended on Trennerys for the eighth edition of their annual Trennerys Bilimoria Rock ‘n Surf competition.

Some great fishing was enjoyed, with top weather conditions making for an enjoyable weekend.

“Every year it is improving, and this year was another great addition to the competition’s history,” said Carr.

“Weather conditions were good, no rain, no wind, but there was some rain prior to the weekend which did bring down the Kei river and made conditions of the water a bit dirty and a little bit cold. But fishing is fishing, so it didn’t have much of an impact.

“We have had some really good reports and positive letters coming in, saying that it was a really well organised competition and the prizes were fantastic and it was a very good vibe, so it was really good from that perspective.

“We did do something different this year. We had a talk from a woman by the name of Carla, who gave a half an hour talk about Kob and how precious they are to our waters and how important it is to catch and release for growing the strength of Kob in the area, and bringing attention and awareness to the anglers, which they seemed to really appreciate.”

It was a good weekend, with Craig Hurn, Jaydon Iveson, Challen Gendall, Ian Guyan, Russell Hulley, Tony Davies, Nico Joubert and Matthew Guyani all triumphing in different categories.

“We have been talking to our main sponsor Billimoria, who are extremely important to us, as we have teamed up with them over the years, and we were thinking about getting a bit more entertainment in on the Friday night before the competition just to create more of a vibe about the place,” said Carr.

Each year its gotten better, and this year was another great addition
