It’s payback time for the Warriors

- ALVIN REEVES

The Warriors will have an opportunity to exact revenge on the Titans when teams meet again in a Momentum One-Day Cup clash in Benoni on Friday.

It will be the second meeting between the sides inside of a week following the Titan’s 55run victory at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

The Warriors failed to chase down a massive 370 for victory but made a good fist of the fight in reaching 314. It was the Warriors’ first loss of the campaign through six matches but they’re still top the table.

“We just happy that we have a chance to put it right because we play them again on Friday,” said coach Rivash Gobind. “It’s straight back into it and we looking forward to that. We just need someone to step up now which we’ve always had and I’m sure someone will put their hand up again.”

The Warriors were basically undone by a record 234-run partnership for the first wicket by Aiden Markram (139) and Tony de Zorzi (99). They were always playing catch-up after not being able to strike early.

“Chasing 370 is always difficult. They had two guys who played really well. I thought we started well with the ball but if you don’t get early wickets, especially with the lineup they have got, you going to be under pressure.

“We could have fielded a bit better, our fielding wasn’t that great. That’s probably 15 runs you could take off.”

The pitch was an exceptional surface for batting and the Warriors were quietly confident of getting close to the record competition first innings total posted by the Titans.

“If we were smarter with the bat, maybe we could have chased it down.”

After Benoni, the Warriors will move to East London to face the Knights next Friday.
