Leagues keep to script with honours shared among club hopefuls

The Buffalo City men’s and women’s tennis leagues have ended, with the last matches rained out. The spoils were evenly divided among the clubs.

The final match between Old Boys and Beacon Bay A decided the winners of the prestigiou­s men’s first league. In an exciting evenly-fought encounter, Beacon Bay A emerged victorious.

The final log positions were Beacon Bay A (41), Old Boys (35), Beacon Bay B (16), Gonubie (14) and Alfa (8).

The men’s second league finished in a two-horse race, with Omega inching their way past Old Boys by a mere two points. The final tally was Omega 46 and Old Boys 44. Destiny (31), Beacon Bay (28), Abbotsford (22) and Mdantsane followed.

Gonubie were clear-cut winners of the men’s third league, finishing on 41 points to the 20 of second-placed Destiny. Buffalo Flats (8) came third.

The women’s first league was run on a round-robin basis. The three teams were evenly matched, with Wilson finishing on 166 points to the 160 gained by Prince and the 156 of Head.

The combined Stirling/Abbotsford side gained 48 points to head the women’s second league log. They superseded Old Boys (39) and Beacon Bay (36). Destiny (28), Gonubie (24) and Buffalo Flats/Mdantsane followed.
