Healthier habits now for Zolani

- MFUNDO PILISO mfundop@dispatch.co.za

No more fat cakes or any other unhealthy food for Mdantsane’s own WBO bantamweight champion Zolani “Last Born” Tete, who now consumes only organic foods to maintain a healthy body and hopefully expand his successful boxing career as well.

This after his stable Last Born Promotions recently announced a partnership with Rosegold wellness and fitness consultants, who run their operations at the Timothy 4:8 studio in Southernwood, East London.

Tete’s manager, Mla Tengimfene, told Boxing Mecca that the boxer was already getting specially prepared meals by Rosegold dieticians delivered to his home daily.

“Asoze uphinde ubone uZolani esitya amagwinya okanye thina sisebenza naye siguqe esthebeni sisika inyama etyibeloyo [from now onwards you are not going to see Tete eating fat cakes or even the technical team won’t eat unhealthy food.

“Now we are only eating organic foods that’s your vegetables and food that has been specially prepared by Rosegold,” Tengimfene said.

The professional physical conditioning trainers at Rosegold’s Timothy 4:8 studio will now be responsible for Tete’s conditioning. But Tengimfene highlighted that this was more of a conscious decision from the Tete camp to start leading a healthier lifestyle that encompassed more than just training.

“The champ is changing his lifestyle completely now. The way he eats and the way he trains he has changed, and he wants to encourage other people as well to start living a healthy lifestyle that change’s the message Zolani wants to put out there and that’s the basis of our partnership with Rosegold and Timothy 4:8 studio.”

Tengimfene said before the deal with Rosegold was released they would only take note of Tete’s diet when they were preparing for a scheduled fight.

“Thina nalentwana uZolani besikade singayihoyanga ncam maan lento yokutya izinto ezinezakha mzimba [Me and this boy Zolani never considered a healthy diet with nutrients to be that important.] But now we are changing that thinking because this is a good lifestyle for everyone to adopt.

“We used to say we need to start losing weight because we will be fighting in the next two months, but now even after the fight he will still be eating healthy so that he can live longer and expand his boxing career.”

The Mdantsane-based world champion, who scored an endorsement deal with MercedesBenz last year, would not abandon his Mdantsane gym, where he always prepares for his international fights.

“He will be having regular conditioning sessions at the Timothy 4:8 studios, but he will still follow his boxing programme back in the gym in Mdantsane. We are going to incorporate the conditioning sessions with his programme,” said Tengimfene.
