The popular Metro FM Heatwave party heads to East London on Saturday December 14 with a musical line up that promises to ignite the dance floor.

Metro FM hosts the parties across the country during the festive season.

In 2005, the station’s Summer tour evolved to become the Metro FM Heatwave which plays on a rise in temperature and announces the arrival of fun.

Eastern Cape singer Ami Faku, who has taken the country by storm with her unusual vocals, will perform on the day alongside singer Naak Musiq, hip-hop DJ Speedsta, veteran Kwaito musician Thebe and amapiano sensation Kabza Da Small.

Celebrated media personality and actor Moshe Ndiki will cohost the event with Somizi Mhlongo and Metro FM’s Thomas Msengana.

Faku, 28, was introduced to the SA music scene with a feature on Sun El Musician’s smash hit, Into Ingawe.

Faku released her debut album, Imali, in September and this saw her becoming Apple’s October Spotlight choice of new artist.

The Artist Spotlight is a feature used to develop local artist in the music industry.

Faku, a second-year accounting student at the Nelson Mandela University, describes her music as “soulful, sincere, moody and lyrical”.

She said she was excited to perform at the Heatwave concert. “Living in PE, I have always wanted to attend the Heatwave. Now I get to perform there and that is a dream come true. This year has been so humbling and exciting for me as a musician.

“People who have never seen me live will get the opportunity to see the person behind the music.

“My performance at the event will be a beautiful Afro-soul moment that will be enjoyed by all,” she said.

Faku said the music industry was evolving in a way which allowed artists to thrive while staying true to themselves.

“The music industry in SA is giving more options for people to truly be themselves as artists.

“There is hope for creatives who go against the grain and want to do something different with their craft.

“The time is now,” she said. “I have grown as an artist and I am looking forward to 2020.

“My supporters can expect more collaborations and travelling.

“With the new year I hope to be more than I am today.”

Eastern Cape DJs Welo, Yoba, Misser HouseFanatic, Mjazz and hip-hop artist Slogan will join the line-up.

Patrons are allowed to bring cooler boxes to the venue, but glass bottles are not permitted.

Tickets are available at Computicket.
