RETURN OF GQAMANE A HUGE BOOST FOR BORDER

Aya to bring stability ahead of KZN showdown

The Border semi-professional cricket team will be boosted by the return of captain Aya Gqamane when they take on KwaZulu-Natal Coastal in their CSA three and one day cup matches at Buffalo Park starting from Thursday.

Gqamane has been a part of the Warriors’ extended Momentum One Day Cup squad over the past few weeks, so was unavailable for selection, but now makes a welcomed return to the young Border side.

His experience and leadership skills will come in handy against a struggling KZN Coastal side that sits two places above Border in the three day and one above them on the one day logs, with Border propping up both.

“I am happy to be back to playing again with Border and I am looking forward to getting on to the field with the team,” said Gqamane.

“I have enjoyed having the captaincy this season and I work well with the players, so it’s good to be back leading them against KZN.”

Border will hope for a much improved effort against KZN Coastal having lost three of their last four matches, with one being washed out.

They lost both three day matches at home against Boland and away against South Western Districts, while the one day against Boland was washed out and they lost their one day against SWD.

They will thus be eager to put in a strong performance in their two matches against KZ Coastal.

“The build up has been good, the guys are fired up and are excited for the challenge of KZN,” said Gqamane.

“Every team in the competition is tough, so we will have to do the basics right, follow our processes, and hopefully we can come away with a win.”

The team will also be happy to be back at their regular home ground of Buffalo Park after they had to play their previous home match against Boland at Police Park. This will hopefully boost the young squad to put in a powerful effort against KZN Coastal.

“It is always good to be Buffalo park. It is our home ground, and we want to take advantage of the conditions against KZN,” said Gqamane.

“The guys are learning and getting stronger each game. It is quite a young side, but we are happy where we are at the moment and we just have to keep improving in every game.”

The three day match gets under way at 10am on Thursday morning and should conclude by Saturday afternoon, while the one day match will start at 9:30am on Sunday.
