Proudly South African has launched a “Buy Local” consumer education campaign.

The new campaign features acting legend Dr John Kani who takes on the role of the president, encouraging citizens to support locally produced brands.

ProudlySA CEO Eustace Mashimbye said unemployment figures now stood at a record high of more than 30%.

“Our economy is in dire straits and the debt levels of the country and those of its citizens, already escalated to dangerous levels, have been further impacted by the economic inactivity during lockdown levels 4 and 5,” Mashimbye said.

“We are delighted with the interpretation of the objectives of our campaign brief by everybody involved in the preproduction, execution and postproduction phase of the TV commercial in particular. We are very proud ....

“We hope the commercial will resonate with the South African public and they will see the benefits of buying locally manufactured goods, but more important, that they will understand the consequences of not supporting our own.”

The TV commercial aspect of the campaign is being flighted as a public service announcement on SABC, which is a strategic partner of ProudlySA.

It is also being aired on e.tv and DStv channels.
