350 families in Raymond Mhlaba to receive food parcels
Three-hundred-and-fifty destitute families in the Raymond Mhlaba municipal area will receive food parcels from benefactors this week.
Non-profit organisation African Footprints of Hope (AFoH) said it had received the food parcels from the Kolisi Foundation which it will distribute from Tuesday.
The NGO focuses primarily on the youth, the disabled, vulnerable children and the elderly.
AFoH director Nolitha Nkomana said they had originally asked for assistance with the drilling of two boreholes in water-scarce Alice.
“They will be donating food parcels to the communities that we have been feeding during this pandemic and agreed to donate 350 food parcels,” Nkomana said.
Having started the organisation 12 years ago, Nkomana’s initial vision was to raise funds for children affected by HIV/Aids.
“I wanted to do Cape to Cairo by road to raise funds for children. When that could not materialise and having seen the huge need on the ground, I then decided we must focus on youth and community development as that will address social ills inclusively instead of confining ourselves in one area,” she said.
AFoH’s recently painted a primary school in Hillcrest township which needed a makeover. Nkomana said they also helped youth with sport, arts and culture, skills development and job creation and found them internships.
Kolisi Foundation CEO Mahlatse Mashua promised to comment by 7.30pm, which was after print deadline.
