Chippa United will step it up a gear when they face high-flying Richards Bay in a Dstv Premiership fixture at the Bidvest Wits Stadium on Sunday (3.30pm), says the team’s leading striker Etiosa Ighodaro.

Nigerian Ighodaro, who joined the Gqebehra side from the University of Pretoria in August, said he was not too fazed by Richards Bay ’ s second position on the log.

The 21-year-old said Chippa had learnt from their 2-1 “We defeat are to preparing Cape Town for City Sunday on’tuesday s game,” night. Ighodaro said.

“We know what we are facing and we are not going to relax.

“We are going to come strong because Richards Bay are a good team.

“So we are going to bring our A game because we have to fight no matter who or where they are positioned on the log.”

Despite the City loss, the Chilli Boys remain sixth on the log with 17 points from 12 matches.

The team were soaring having scored four straight wins in the PSL, but their wings were smartly clipped by the Cape Town side this week.

The setback was coach Morgan Mammila’s first defeat at the helm, after taking over from axed coach Daine Klate.

Reflecting on the encounter, Ighodaro says they were too relaxed.

“The game against Cape Town City wasn’t easy. “So we have to learn from our mistakes and we have rectified the problems we encountered during the game.

“We were too relaxed in the first 10 minutes and we were not ourselves.

“But we will go out and strike again like we normally do.

“We will come out stronger and go harder at our opponents on Sunday.

“We know that the game was not easy so we can ’ t dwell too much on that.

“We have left it behind and are focusing on the game on Sunday.”

The striker has made seven appearances in the league since joining Chippa.

He said he was enjoying his football at his new club.

“It’s been wonderful. This is going to be a good season because my teammates are fighting for each other and we aim to finish in the top eight this season.

“That is our target,” Ighodaro said.
