Search on for talent to join Duncan Village choir

- ANELISA GUSHA

In a bid to foster a culture of musical appreciation, a local musician has launched a talent search for up-and-coming artists to join the Duncan Village Mass Choir.

The choir aims to provide a platform for talented singers and musicians to hone their skills and share their gifts with the world.

The official auditions start on February 10, with registrations already open.

Each person is required to send a Whatsapp text with their details confirming attendance at the audition.

Lusizo Kango, an up-andcoming gospel star who was born and bred in Duncan Village, is one of the men behind the idea.

Kango sings gospel and afrosoul and has been in the industry for more than a decade, but is still in the process of making a name for himself.

He and co-founder Luncedo Pepa are running the project to ensure young people shine through singing.

Kango said he wanted to change the narrative around the township as a haven for crime.

“I grew up in Duncan Village and became an artist in the same township.

“This project is part of development and giving flowers to the people I grew up around and also granting young people access to showing off their talents.

“We are working with the government to fight crime.

“We will have programmes that will teach them music and the business side of it.”

The artist said they had big plans for the youngsters.

“There are many programmes we are looking to implement to uplift young people.

“We do not want them to just become musicians but to also be well-informed on how they can sell themselves and market their own brands.”

Kango said his dream was for the choir to shine not only in Duncan Village but across the country.

“We will be working with seasoned musicians who can train them to become better artists,” Kango said.

“We are looking to make music that can uplift and heal souls. We will be entertaining our people through our God-given skills.

“One of our plans is to record an album yearly.

“Hopefully by doing so we can make sure they keep shining.”

Up-and-coming musicians who are interested can send a message to 078-9436-524 with their name and surname, address, age and contact number.

The auditions will be held at the old post office in Jabavu Street.
