Urgent wakeup needed
In another of his excellent weekly pieces, Bantu Mniki (‘Expresident Zuma is a Master of Destruction’, DD Apr 17) addresses a major problem besetting SA — a tendency for many to do as they please with complete disdain for the law.
That Jacob Zuma shows complete disrespect for the laws of SA, especially in respect of how they impact on him, is a measure of the man and his unsuitability for public office.
Of course those representing political parties should be virtuous individuals who are the most honest, most responsible, most respected and most capable of doing so.
Unfortunately, it says much about the MK Party that it regards Zuma as embodying the above virtues when so much evidence — the Arms Deal, the Guptas, Nkandla, the dismantling of the Scorpions, the destruction of many SOES, the attempt to capture Sars, and much more — indicates he is not who SA needs to lead it to a better life for all.
With its tragic history both preand post-1994, SA needs an urgent wakeup call to identify and elect, in the May 29 poll, individuals whose motivation and visions lie beyond the selfenrichment that has hallmarked the present regime for 30 years. As much as change was desperately needed in 1994, so it is again now.
In its efforts to obliterate all evidence of colonialism and imperialism, the ANC’S modus operandi is reminiscent of the scorched earth policy adopted by the English against the Boers in the 1899-1902 Anglo-boer War.
Such a policy leaves nothing behind for an opposing side to use in the future.
This strategy we see in the present government’s behaviour as it destroys one functioning state structure after the other.
The concern is that if there is no change of government in 2024, the destruction of the South African economy will be so complete that there will be nothing left on which to rebuild SA.
The Zondo Commission named so many who have contributed to this destruction. Yet not one has been called before a court to account for their role.
This in itself should be more than sufficient for all those voters wishing to vote against crime and corruption.
It is in the manifesto of Actionsa and other Multiparty Charter members that crime and corruption be rooted out of SA. — Bill Gould, Actionsa BCM media officer
