The annual East London Show is set to draw thousands of visitors to the Gonubie Farmer’s Hall from this weekend.

From food and craft stalls, game and livestock auctions, agriculture and industry exhibits to carnival games for children and adults, live entertainment and a beer tent, the show will have something for everyone.

One of the organisers, Fred van der Vyver, said they expected about 4,000 guests a day at the show, which runs from April 27 to May 1 at the Gonubie farmers market, located near the Brakfontein off-ramp on the N2.

“The five-day event will have daily programmes that people can look forward to.

“People can also look forward to horse competitions, entertainment and big stock auctions,” he said.

Van der Vyver said there would also be a poultry show and a competition and prizes up for grabs.

“For those hungry, there will be delicious food stalls where people can get something to eat, plenty of flea markets.

“There will be entertainment and an exhibit of John Deere machinery.”

He said there would be both indoor and outdoor activities and described the event as family-friendly and catering to all tastes.

Van der Vyver said the show also served as a school outing and made available necessary information for pupils interested in agriculture.

“The school packages are booked. They help pupils learn and acquire knowledge and information [about] tractors, livestock and much more,” he said.

To ensure that everyone gets to enjoy this year’s event, people will be able to book their tickets online.

“People can buy their tickets online at a R5 discount and will not have to stand in long lines,” Van der Vyver said.

Tickets can also be bought at the gates (R50 per adult and R30 for children) and the gates will be open from 8am to 6pm daily.

“There will be scouts that will assist people to get parked as soon as possible.

“We have beefed up security which will [make it] very safe so people can go and enjoy themselves.”

Van der Vyver said each edition of the show was different and visitors could expect a familycentric affair this year that would be bigger than the successful 2023 edition.
