Lukewarm bourse as traders await clues

The JSE was little changed on Thursday, with global markets mixed as investors looked towards catalysts for direction.

Central banks delivered a mixed signal this week. But there is a common message that interest rates will stay higher for longer amid stubborn inflation. According to Fedwatch tool, investors see a 91% chance the Fed will keep rates unchanged at its June policy meeting, up from 49% a month ago. At 10.30, the all-share was little changed at 77,189 points, while the top-40 lost 0.28%. At 10.40am, the rand was flat at R18.55/$, while it had firmed 0.26% to R19.90/€ and 0.29% to R23.14/£. The euro was 0.16% weaker at $1.07.

Gold gained 0.12% to $2,310.44/oz and platinum 0.83% to $992.7/oz. Brent crude was 0.71% firmer at $84.18 a barrel.
