Joburg Theatre
is open again, welcoming “arts and entertainment lovers to the Mandela Theatre on Thursday, 22 and Friday, 23 October for a special evening of world-class opera with Cantiamo – Mzansi Opera Celebration”. The opera is directed by Marcus Tebogo Desando and will feature Kimmy Skota, Kelebogile Besong, Thesele Kemane and Phenye Modiane, with Paul Ferreira on piano. The two live performances will be available for streaming to viewers worldwide – starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are R120, or stream the performance for just R70. SAAO Bicentenary:
The South African Astronomical Observatory in Cape Town is turning 200! The celebrations, starting on 20 October and running until 23 October, will be an opportunity to not only “recall our scientific achievements but more importantly to celebrate together our country’s and our continent’s rich cultural heritage as well as to look forward ‘Beyond 200 Years of Astronomy’”. Sign up for the symposium, which will cover a wide range of topics, including “current and future science, and the history of astronomy on the continent, as well as cultural and sociological aspects of astronomy”.
