Joburg Theatre

is open again, welcoming “arts and entertainm­ent lovers to the Mandela Theatre on Thursday, 22 and Friday, 23 October for a special evening of world-class opera with Cantiamo – Mzansi Opera Celebratio­n”. The opera is directed by Marcus Tebogo Desando and will feature Kimmy Skota, Kelebogile Besong, Thesele Kemane and Phenye Modiane, with Paul Ferreira on piano. The two live performanc­es will be available for streaming to viewers worldwide – starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are R120, or stream the performanc­e for just R70. SAAO Bicentenar­y:

The South African Astronomic­al Observator­y in Cape Town is turning 200! The celebratio­ns, starting on 20 October and running until 23 October, will be an opportunit­y to not only “recall our scientific achievemen­ts but more importantl­y to celebrate together our country’s and our continent’s rich cultural heritage as well as to look forward ‘Beyond 200 Years of Astronomy’”.
