Sooliman to be named a Living Legend
GIFT of the Givers founder Dr Imtiaz Sooliman and Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Naledi Pandor are among the 10 luminaries to be honoured at the eThekwini Municipality’s Living Legends awards tomorrow.
The ceremony, at the International Convention Centre, recognises the outstanding contribution to nation-building of past or present residents of Durban in various fields of human endeavour.
It also acknowledges the achievements of those demonstrating extraordinary contribution in the municipality’s legacy.
The recipients have been selected through nominations made by the public in the fields of arts, culture, human rights, academia, science and technology.
Also on the awards list are businessman and politician Sathyandranth “Mac” Maharaj, and research musicologist and lecturer Dr Sazi Dlamini.
eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede said: “It is important for us to honour our living legends for their distinct achievements and contribution to the people of eThekwini and countrywide. Their achievements serve as inspiration to our young generation.”
The municipality is in the process of building a multi-million rand Central Library that will house the Living Legends Museum to ensure the project becomes a lasting legacy for future generations.
