Nice advert, but why no contact details?

eThekwini

Nice, colourful advert, but why no direct line, e-mail address, fax number, nothing? Is the new mayor of eThekwini aware how “dormant” most telephone and e-mail lines are, where nobody answers or communication is deliberately blocked because nobody has answers? Phone me, please, on 083 799 3264, 031 269 3264, ebkoybie@gmail. com, Councillor Gumede, and I will show you evidence of a hitherto totally dysfunctional. Metro. ES Essa, Clare Estate.

Once again in response to Concerned Resident, states that the change to the new RMS system went without any glitches. How can I query my billing when I haven’t received an account for two months? Council, like the ANC, are in denial that anything is wrong with the new system. Surely, at some stage council should come clean on this state of affairs. What about it, Mr Piet du Preez? Lone Ranger.

Politics

Prasa ##$#% R80 million. Where is the money? Who has taken it? Come now, ANC, it’s your chance to clean up your act. Joe Soap.

Thoko Didiza. For the whole of Cyril Ramaphosa’s speech in Parliament, this woman was asleep . For someone who was chosen as a mayor-elect she is a disgrace. This was on TV.

Why has Zuma taken over state-owned companies as chairman? This man cannot be trusted with such a huge responsibility. He can’t even run a country properly, leave be chairman of such huge parastatals. Zuma must fall.

Our beloved SA is heading for junk status, just like the Zupta government, nothing but junk. These people have so much of our tax money that they do not know how to spend it properly. They keep spending it on junk.

Dear Cyril, to call on warring parties in state institutions to stop their public spats is very futile, don’t you think? Sir, your ANC is in disarray, corruption is rife and not being addressed, support for the ruling party has dropped markedly, you guys are publicly rebuking each other, you’re openly trying to get Gordhan in trouble and funding for big institutions is being withdrawn. And Zuma is still standing. There’s the problem. Parks.

This Des van Rooyen character has his head all screwed up. He said PG must follow all due legal processes, which I am in agreement with. But the big question here is where was he when JZ’s 700 and some odd charges were withdrawn? At that time we didn’t even know this Van Rooyen character, and his qualifications. Where did he spring up from? Is he a spring chicken? Is he JZ’s hatchling? You never know what happens when you go into exile. Prem.

It seems the guptarised ANC wants to destroy the economy, including achieving junk status for the rand, joblessness at Zimbabwe levels, hyperinflation and the destruction of all pensions. All as long as Zuma is protected from prosecution, gets his R4 billion jet, the Guptas get full control of all SOEs, and Rostom gets to build the R1.5 trillion nuclear power stations. RB.

Hair

My deepest sympathy concerning the student hair issue, but an afro upon an afro is really a hair-raising situation. Robbie L, Bluff.

School pupils should focus on their studies, not on their hairstyles.

School hair. Observer, you are a racist. Get rid of the huge chip on your shoulder; some schools have rules and standards that apply to all. Why is it so difficult for you to grasp? And with your “thin ice” threats. I would not expect anything less from a bigot. Go figure. ZZ.

It was shocking, if not hilarious, to see a school pupil’s afro hair on TV, with regards to the spat at Pretoria school. When we went to school, short hair for the boys and plaited for the girls. Rules instill discipline. From the visuals on TV, many of these black girls’ hair – no, I’m no racist – was downright ridiculous. Those are extensions, and not their real hair, nor is it part of their culture. This is just a fashion trend, which has no place in school. Parents, wake up: are you sending your child to school to be educated properly, or to set fashion trends? Principals, don’t be bullied by ministers, take it to court. No wonder schools and varsities are in disarray, because many students are there for wrong reasons. Chop, chop, I say. KS.

Protests

With regards to campus students burning and stone throwing, where are the parents of these idiots?

To all pupils: Please concentrate on the 3 Rs – Reading, Riting & Rithmetic. That’s what you go to school for. All the scientists and artists of the world are where they are because they did not burn books or destroy schools.

Odds and ends

Jonathan Jansen: It is very sad to finally see this fine professor leave the University of Free State. When he joined this university, he had to confront some racial issues. I was impressed with the way that he managed the situation, especially with pressure from Julius Malema. I hope he was not pushed. Democrat.

The reader who will boycott establishments where hygiene standards – in your opinion having a beard – are not observed, considering men having beards are now a fashion statement, are you going to visit all establishments’ kitchens? Get your head together and grow up.

How come the Metro cops can’t see motorist going through red traffic lights? Just asking. Glen.

My heartfelt condolences to the parents of the 13-year-old girl. I know how it hurts. I will always pray for her. I lost my 13-year-old girl under a school bus on on May 9, 1996. Kenny Singh, Isipingo.

How come every time there is the burning of state institutions, stoning of motor vehicles and blockades of public roads, the report always ends with “no arrests have been made”? I just think that the police are too lazy to arrest the perpetrators and fill in reports. Does the constitution protect the safety of its citizens? At one stage this country had one of the best riot squads. Now we have pot-bellied policemen and women who are employed to protect themselves rather than their citizens. Robin.

To the kind Indian gentleman who paid for the lunch of two lady pensioners at Queensmead Wimpy on Spring day, thanks for the kind gesture. It was much appreciated. SCK.

What’s all this fuss about the burkini ban in France? I saw women in India clad in sarees frolicking on the beach. Paul.

To the contractor upgrading Greenvale Avenue. What a joke. Do you call this upgrading? This road is worse than the roads in the farm area. Shaun.
