Pravesh finds the humour in us humans
STAND-UP comedy fans in KZN are in for a treat when Joburg’s Pravesh Mungaldave brings his new show, Human Behaviour, to Sibaya Casino’s iZulu Theatre tomorrow and Saturday.
Mungaldave is on a mission to get into the minds of humans and their interactions with each other through the show.
“I am always noticing the strange behaviour of people around me, so I thought, ‘let’s put it into a comedy set’,” he explained.
“The show also includes stories and experiences from my life and being a new dad to identical twin boys.”
With his comedy career having been predominantly Joburg-based, with the exception of private and corporate functions, Mungaldave has fielded many requests from Durban to stage a show.
“So this is why Durban is the first to experience my one man comedy show.
“I want my audience to sit back and enjoy a great night of mainstream comedy about experiences we all go through on a daily basis,” he said.
“I have plans to take Human Behaviour on tour nationally next year. I would also like to expand internationally and do some gigs abroad. The comedy circuit in India is growing extensively so maybe that will be my first stop.”
The audience can expect to be treated to mainstream comedy and a bit of audience interaction in the show.
“I’m so looking forward to Durban. It’s going to be two nights of great comedy. Durban, I will see you there, and let’s meet after the show!”
Human Behaviour looks at our daily lives and the things we do, or rather have to put up with.
“No man is an island, right? Unless you get caught digging in your nose. Then no one wants to be around you. So, in order to live, we need to interact with each other,” he said.
“Laughter is the best medicine, unless you have haemorrhoids, then I guess bum cream will have to suffice. So don’t be like that guy next door, watch this show for your medicinal cure,” he joked.
Mungaldave’s trajectory on our mainstream comedy circuit has been swift and steady since he won the Gauteng Humorous Speech Contest in 2008 as the only novice entrant. The KZN comedian, who grew up in Pietermaritzburg, has been seen sharing the stage with some of South Africa’s legendary comics at leading venues such as at The Playhouse in Durban, the Johannesburg Civic Theatre and the Pretoria State Theatre.
His performances have included gigs at comedy clubs throughout Joburg, from Ozone in Soweto to Parker’s Comedy at Montecasino to The Comedy Underground. He was nominated for a comedy award at the 2013 Satma awards. ● Human Behaviour at Sibaya’s iZulu Theatre, 8pm tomorrow and Saturday. Tickets are R100 per person.
