Powell a disgrace more than Trump

-

ONCE America’s most powerful secretary of state, Colin Powell, called Donald Trump a disgrace. (Trump is a national disgrace, says Powell’s leaked e-mail, Daily News, September 15.)

Retired army general Powell, who was secretary of state under former president George W Bush, speaks of disgrace, but he himself fails under this category.

He led the American army into Iraq to topple president Saddam Hussein and brought chaos and helped to completely destroy the country.

Powell is a bigger disgrace than Trump. Powell destroyed a country, but Trump is only involved in a war of words because of the election.

Powell was a disgrace for acting against the people of Iraq. There was no need for the US to intervene in Iraq. The Iraqis could have taken care of their problems. The US was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Iraqis and destroyed the country. All this because of Bush’s conspiracy to destroy Saddam Hussein, and to secure oil for the US.

However, the war was not over and Powell stepped down as secretary of state and army chief because he could no longer take the heat, knowing the Bush policy was wrong on Iraq.

At least Powell had a conscience about what the war was doing to Iraq and its people, but it was too late in the day for him to change his mistake.

Powell should go down in the annals of history as a disgraced man. He surely will find a place there. ISMAIL M MOOLLA
