Customer liability for banks’ fees ‘unfair’, says pensioner

-

Consumerism

As a pensioner I used to bank with one of the four major banks, namely Nedbank, whenever I could afford, say, R50 a month. Then I’d get an SMS saying my account would be closed because of insufficient funds and I’d get a printout saying I had a balance of R9. The bank said the money I deposited was used for admin purposes. My question is, why must my money or part of my money be used to pay the bank’s upkeep? Is this fair? Pensioner EK

Crime

Thank you, Detective Warrant Officer Sivan Naidoo from the Durban central police station. Your hard, intelligent police work in ensuring the woman abuser gets convicted and sentenced will always be appreciated by our communities. TJ

Government

Dr Dhlomo, so you think you have your finger on the pulse? Think again. How many of your staff arrive and leave on time daily? You don’t know, do you? Maybe you should check. Taxpayer

Public protector, how do you explain yourself? We (the public) gave you the benefit of the doubt but you let us down. You have been Guptarised. Please resign and join Ngubane in disgrace. Joe Soap The Guptas, President Zuma and the government are holding our country to ransom. With everything against their name, nothing is being done. Sad state of affairs for our beautiful country! Let’s pray for a miracle so all the cheats can get lost! Mandy

Municipality

It is my take that the case against the Coo-ee advert along the N2 highway has got nothing to do with road safety but everything to do with municipality capture by Coca-Cola.

To all those jumping up and down about the Babes breakfast. Other places also celebrate their artists. It seems all we can do is complain about everything. Well done to Babes and Nasty C for their achievements. Go there and fly our flag with pride, knowing that we are supporting you. Realist

To the Toti DA and the Parks Department in Toti, you have done a good job trimming the trees and what a surprise – the street cleaners are starting to work properly. Now keep up the good work and well done to you all. Buzz

Name change

How about “Greater Gujarat” for a rename of South Africa in honour of Shri Guptas?

I agree with Nathi Mthethwa that SA’s name must change. SA is inappropriate at this stage. It must be changed to “Banana Republic”. JGV

With respect I think Nathi Mthethwa has been smoking his socks. Changing Durban’s name will do nothing to change the fact that as a city and prime holiday destination we need to clean up the city and beachfront before anything else. The pool on North Beach has been an empty eyesore for years now and the actual beach is doing a disappearing act. We need to pump sand there urgently. Spend the ratepayers’ money wisely. Lynn

Racism

No parent, no school or pupils are to blame for racism. Our so-called democratic government is to blame because of all the apartheid comments. All the races are racists because they are all brainwashed. “Kill the whites” was a remark made by a politician. Stop blaming others for the wrong that you as government are doing. Grant, Escombe Nathi Mthethwa, you haven’t even bothered to disguise your racism. Why should the banks have to respond to your allegations with regard to the donations given to the victims of the Knysna fires. All over the country people have rallied to assist in the disaster. I don’t remember one person saying that their donation should only go to whites. The one thing that is positive in this situation is that all South Africans have joined together. It is only the ANC that has tried to destroy the unity once again.

To the person who said banks only contributed money to white people in Western Cape fires, open your eyes before commenting. People of all colours were victims. NJT

Sport

Well done to the Boks who seem to be back to winning form. A win is a win and we will gladly accept it. The pressure is off Coetzee and now it’s time to play for the love of the game.
