-

THIS week marks the end of an era as St Benedict School in Pinetown bids a sad farewell to their acting principal, Pamela Morrissey.

Morrissey has spent 42 years in education, the last 20 at St Benedict. She qualified from Durban Teachers’ Training College in 1970 and did a Further Diploma in Education at Edgewood in 1993. Morrissey started teaching at Montclair Senior Primary in 1971.

In 1979 she moved to Convent High School (now Holy Family College) where she served for 19 years as teacher, HOD and deputy principal. Morrissey moved to Pinetown Convent (now St Benedict School) in 1998 as a Grade 7 teacher.

In her 20 years there she has been a Grade 7 teacher, HOD, deputy principal, head of primary school and is now retiring after 18 months as act- ing principal.

Morrissey says she has always tried to make a positive difference in the lives of the people she has met through school – children, colleagues and parents. She has tried to motivate by positive reinforcement and taken the time to accept, understand and get to know each individual and value them for who they are and what they have to offer.

Morrissey looks forward to travelling to meet with family and friends abroad and spending time with her family.

The school celebrated Morrissey’s time at St Benedict and her enormous contribution to the school with a farewell cocktail party.
