Promises of action over prison strippers just hot air…

ANC. Question for your honourable organisation. Whites are being blamed for everything that is wrong today. Prior to whites coming to South Africa in year 1652, blacks were the owners as claimed in so far as land is concerned. Question: Did the blacks at that time build a house out of bricks? Did they build a boat or ship that can sail? Did they build the current infrastructure that we have? I doubt it. You guys owned the land and the minerals underneath it, but you failed to develop it. The whites saw an opportunity and took it. It could be argued that South Africa was built on slave labour. I fully agree with you, but at least the slaves went to bed with food in their stomachs. Today, under black rule, 1000s go to bed hungry. Let’s stop the blame game and build a better life for all. Naidoo, Victoria Embankment.

Going back to the day applicants were interviewed for the Public Protector position. For those of us who watched on TV, it was a long, protracted process. As night progressed the final candidate was called. Busisiwe Mkhwebane breezed in to impress the panel. I said it then to my friends and I say it now: what a well choreographed performance. She was indeed a Gupta candidate and she played her part well. Now she is delivering what she promised them.

Casspirs for Riot Control. Why are they so expensive? R19.9 million. Tell me, are they gold plated? Who is fooling who here? Round about R4.7m each. Rather use the money on something else. Use our army to control the so-called riots. They have the manpower; instead of them sitting around, make them visible now, even when it is quiet in the City, not when there is trouble only. Let the public see them every day.

Prison officials

Prison officials claim they regularly hold recreational functions for the inmates of “Sun City”, or Johannesburg Prison, as it is supposed to be named. They deny using any taxpayers money for these functions, so please advise us who paid for all the KFC and the strippers? This country is a joke, no wonder the crime rate is so high. Prison is supposed to punish criminals, not feed them with KFC. Graham Rice.

Prison officials in hot water, is just a PR exercise. South African citizens are familiar with these terms, “in hot water and heads would roll.” We all know this is just some hot air. Politicians and officials, when caught out, just get a hefty golden handshake at taxpayers’ expense and promoted to another designation. TJ.

If it was not taxpayers money to pay the strippers, then please explain because they (the strippers) prefer to be paid upfront. Joe Soap.

Odds and ends

Who cares about the size of Vivian’s Reddy’s marquee at the July? Far more important issues in life – VLL.

Dear Mr Editor, how about having something for kids in the Daily News? There was Primary Matters, but that stopped…

Jurgen Klopp, what a gesture for Jordan. Daloo… a ManU fan.

On the cricketers, why do they hold the peak of their cap when they shake hands with the umps and opposition? Show respect and take your cap/ hat off. The person complaining about disability grants receiving a disability grant and still working and are receiving a salary. To him this is unfair. I would like to know if anyone can survive with a meagre grant of R1 500.00 per month?

About urban vigilantes: if police and courts effectively dealt with criminals, there’d be no vigilantes. But since the state can’t or won’t deal with criminals, vigilantes will deal with perceived threats as their prejudices see fit.

In regards to Outsurance advert, have you seen any Indians in their advert? Patrick.
