Bafana Bafana: case of who you know, not how you play
Politics
Madame Mayor, you need to understand that your job is to look after the ratepayers in your city (after all, they pay your salaries), but you seem to think that you are a politician. You’re not. Joe soap.

I don’t get it. Why would people willingly subject themselves to this? I know about drug addiction and stuff. I get why ppl drink excessively and do certain drugs. They look and crave that “high”, that feeling of euphoria, that ability to escape reality and be happy. But this drug just makes you feel horrid and act more horrid! What kind of special nutjob would want that? Uthika Reddy
Odds and ends
SABC, will the programs improve only after the new board has been in office for one hundred days? Montclair’s 10-year-old Luyanda Msomi and that of his best friend, Njabulo Mankayi, their disappearance and recovery of Msomi’s battered and bruised body and then information from two women arrested. We hope that the condolences from Education spokesperson is not just lip service, and that justice takes its course within a quick period. So many cases of child abductions, children raped by people known and entrusted to the victims, or violent acts of abuse by step-parents recently, yet the children endure gruelling moments under these hands – sometimes known by their parents, who are in relationships where the little one’s safety and life is eventually snatched away. Children have voices and many a time they are not heard until it’s too late. Shameema Omar.
Durban gets tough on nuisance by-laws. By-law infringements and fines. Public place infringements and the fines they carry: e.g. Fighting – R1 500; Urinating – R500; Bathing – R500; Washing clothes – R500; Spitting – R200; Consuming liquor or being in a state of intoxication – R2 500 etc. People perish because of a lack of knowledge. My foot... They will never implement these fines. These fines have been implemented a long time ago, and nobody, nobody was fined for urinating openly. Begging has increased... All intersections have 4 beggars, guaranteed. Nobody is going to be fined. Jad.
Can somebody please assist/advise. I requested to upgrade my internet speed with Telkom and advised them of this on October 23, 2017. To date, after numerous complaints, my home telephone and internet has not worked since. Apparently it is a line failure and a technician will be sent out. Do I still have to pay my bill in full? How can I get this resolved, please? Thank you.
This issue of discipline and corporal punishment should start from the parents. Parents should instill in their children what’s good behaviour and what’s not from an early age. They should tell them what behaviour is unacceptable. As parents, when you see your kids doing something wrong, you need to act immediately and tell them that what they have done is wrong. Don’t think, like many parents these days do, that they are still growing and will learn as they get older, or that children are supposed to be naughty, and if not, they are not normal. Some of my close friends have this attitude. This is the wrong attitude and approach towards disciplining your children. I have two adult children and I didn’t have to discipline them using physical means. Whenever I saw them doing wrong I would immediately tell them that’s wrong. At times one stiff look at them was sufficient. They knew immediately that I don’t approve of what they are doing. I didn’t wait for them to get home to tell them what they did was wrong. I also told them, while they growing up, I don’t want my friends, other family members and neighbours to tell me they were misbehaving. I had parents that brought us up this way. Thank God that I didn’t have anybody tell me my son or daughter were up to no good so far. See parents, at the end of the day you have to take responsibility of what your children become when they are adults.
Sport
Banana Bafana... needed some Russian Nuclear Energy to have won the match.
Only one way to get Bafana to qualify for the World Cup – fling every cent of our depleted financial resources into bid to play tournament here! Dropout from platoon class of Ahmadia School.
That game was ridiculous. No effort to team together and play properly at all. There is an easy answer to it. The old rule, No Work, No Pay, and they are indeed overpaid, spoilt professionals who, along with the other 300 who are already there, are looking forward to more money overseas. If I had to pay more than 5 of them even 10 cents, it would be a joke. Or is it one? Or is it one more case of who you know, not how you play.
