City has much to answer for: protests, poor service

PROTESTS

All it needs is one family to move in as squatters and they multiply very quickly. That is what is happening and none of the existing residents has done anything about it. They just leave it until it is too late and moan when people move into the area. Why don’t you meet and discuss something constructive instead of just “moan”? This is the whole country, not just Durban. Only a suggestion.

The protesters want everything for free. If you go to the Clare Estate informal settlement, you will see they have DSTV, free electricity and water. But we need to have a plan and permission to even build a wall while some of us can just build homes anywhere.

Squatters at Clare Estate don’t care about possible flooding. Happy to have soft targets as neighbours.

Why should we pay such high rates in Reservoir Hills to put up with this unlawful behaviour like the destruction of vehicles? Striking is an excuse to loot and that’s the bottom line.

These people are fed up. Every time there is an election they are promised houses, water and lights. After 26 years nothing happens. Remember before Jacob Zuma stepped down, he gave students free entrance to university. How long is it going to be feasible to provide free entrance to university?

Disgusting and yet people are calling the farmers terrorists. Our law turns a blind eye to these criminals who just burn things that don’t belong to them and loot stores. So disgraceful.

It is time the general public started to hold the mayor and the ethekwini council accountable for the protest action and make them pay for damages.

Riots in the country is a direct result of our incompetent and fraudulent government.

I have been complaining about illegal businesses next to my property for five years now. I have been to land usage department numerous times and nothing happens. I have been to valuations as they are paying residential rates but being a million rand businesses. I have been to the integrity department nothing happened for five years now so I know what these squatters are feeling.

ODDS AND ENDS

Isipingo man killed in an accident on Higginson Highway. If the road lights had been repaired, I feel that this accident could have been avoided. This was not the first fatal accident and it sadly won’t be the last if ethekwini Municipality fails to repair the lights. So the blame firmly lies with the municipality and a family is grieving the loss of a family member due to negligence.

The South African National Defence Force airplane was used without authority by the ANC. Now the ANC wants to pay the government for expenses incurred. The airplane is a state resource and is not your personal asset. If heads do not roll we will never eliminate corruption and the excuses the

ANC makes for its rogue ministers.

The obvious added benefit, scientists agree to keeping masks on in public spaces, is also avoiding seasonal influenza. So it is worth it. | Ese

Malema, do you realise it is the white/ black farmer that puts the food on your table for your family? Obviously not. The food producers are being callously murdered left right and centre and their staff are in jeopardy of job losses. If ad hoc protesters can protest, burn schools, torch police vehicles and blockade roads with no recourse, then surely the farmers, who are the backbone of the food supply in this country, must be given the same opportunity. The farmers would do this peacefully but Malema and the EFF are going to Senekal to incite violence and trouble and then blame the farmers. Please Lord save this country.
