Chatters agree on high medical specialist costs

Politics

President Zuma said black people must not vote for the DA because they will upset the ancestors and bring bad luck to them. Why doesn’t he tell that to the criminals so our crime rate will come down? Sizwe.

My colleague told me that the ANC told people in the township that the DA was going to bring back apartheid and they believe it. Clive.

Will our useless cANCer government please lay off our Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. Again your actions are to blame for the weakening of the rand. I think they are hell bent on destroying the country now after the hiding they got in the elections. Minister Gordhan has a lot of credibility, is good for our currency and is liked by the rest of the world. Unlike our pathetic President Zuma who could stop this nonsense but chooses to remain very quiet at the moment after the elections. M Mowat.

AB: the DA has no power nor influence in the eThekwini Municipality so they will not be doing anything constructive for the Indian voter. They caught the gullible Indian voters hook, line and sinker. Ha ha, he he. Ted.

Julius Malema was correct when he said the ANC veterans should not treat his party as children. If these doyens of the liberation struggle fought against the might of the apartheid government, why the silence against state capture and corruption? Why would they want to taint their legacies like this? Do they also think that the tax paying voters are stupid?

Zuma is where Mugabe was when he lost the elections to the MDC. He can give up power or he can hang in and ruin the economy and the country. It is time for Ramaphosa and his supporters to join up with the opposition and kick him out. BRM.

Everybody… we need to unite and finally call for Zuma’s removal. This man is every South African’s enemy because he is trying to control everything and in so doing he is destroying our economy, investor confidence, encouraging corruption and hurting the whole population, especially the economically challenged, low-paid income earners. Zuma go! JP.

It does not require much intelligence to know that President Zuma has, so soon after the elections, already begun his nonsense to the detriment of South Africa. I pray on my knees that Zuma comes to his senses and immediately stops his mafia-like nonsense. His personal interests should lie secondary to the needs of our country. Unkal.

The DA only won the ward in Chatsworth not the metro, so don’t expect them to move mountains. Sure, they’ll try their best.

Hi South Africa, what about Thuli Madonsela for president? Dharam.

When you are faithful, hardworking and serve your community and party well, you will be rewarded. Well done, councillor Fawzia Peer, on being elected deputy mayor of eThekwini. Dharam, Lotus Park.

Saw Hlaudi Motsoeneng on TV news being arrogant and insolent. ANC MPs don’t see the need for an inquiry into SABC. MP Maesela Kekana says the journalists misled South Africa, yet a court of law ruled in their favour. The ANC is living in denial and they wonder why they got hammered by the voters.

Congratulations to Sunil Brijmohan, our new councillor in ward 90. Well done, sir. We,the voters of Lotus Park, Orient and Isipingo, are proud to have an ANC councillor. Thank you, voters, for putting your faith and trust in a young man who has passion, vision and compasion.

Heaven help us. Now Zuma has been named chairman of state-owned companies. I think the cookie itself is feeling the heat coming its way. The ANC must fall. The so-called revolution is long gone.

ANC caught a hiding in the big metros not because of Zuma but because the gravy soakers sitting in Parliament sold their souls to the devil. People in the Cape, Nelson Mandela Bay and Gauteng have some hope.

No surprises in reading about Mosa in the courts. It was, to say the least, a failed mission. My only concern is for those who actually voted for this Mickey Mouse Mosa.

This is all perfectly choreographed. Gordhan was insistent on getting rid of Dudu Myeni and SAA board. He reviewed contracts given to the Guptas. He said no funds to support zero fee increase for university’s students. He took seriously the EFF’s complaint about Guptas taking money outside country in breach of treasury rules. Zuma won’t take chance that treasury can cancel contracts of Guptas where his son is the benefactors.

Radio

Reading all the negative comments about ECR, I listen to Radio Station 103 Vuma FM. The best music ever. M Moodley

Bring back Capital Radio. Mervin John. Dave Guselli. We miss you guys. Mannie.

Simple solution to avoid Phat Joe and Darren Maule. Switch to another station like I have done. Don’t want to listen to their c***. PS.

So glad to hear the backlash about our pathetic ECR. What a shame how it’s deteriorated. The only advert seems to be for male enhancement pills. Figures! Yuk.

All you whiners of Phat Joe and Darren Maule are two-faced phonies. The mere fact that you people are complaining, tells me that you are still listening. Move it up and stop whining, damn it.

I don’t listen to ECR. When will KZN have a new radio station? ECR: Eddie ( Circus didn’t want Maule and Phat Joe, that’s why they got jobs at ECR. Bob Curtis, Waterfall.

I agree, Darren Maule must go. It’s always only about him or his daughter. He brings us little exciting content worthy of listening. He is self-centered and actually annoying. Please bring Damon on the breakfast show and banish Maule to midnight slot, if you cannot get rid of him totally. Munro.

Medical

All patients shop around before your medicals. I paid R600 to a urologist for consultation (others wanted R1 200). Blood test R850 (others quoted R1 900). Anesthetist wanted R4 000, got it done for R1 500. Extracted a tooth for R250, others wanted R600. Some of these Hippocratics are a rip off. Sorry, I mean businessmen. Daloo.

Doctors make you sit for long hours in the waiting rooms, consult you for a few minutes and charge you a lot, plus give you a prescription for a huge amount. Are they getting a cut?

Yes, some medical practitioners are blatantly ripping off patients. An orthopaedic surgeon charged 300% above rates and staff are so keen to know if I have gap cover. He charged me R8 500 and Gems (emerald) only pays R2 400. Who monitors these specialists?

Ripped off by specialists. As much as we are advised to use a Gems network specialist, we are sometimes forced to visit a specialist who is not on the network. But at what cost? Gap cover lacking because I am paying for a medical aid.

Municipal

Stormwater blockage: waiting for inspector since August 1, still no show. Eish!

How long is this useless eThekwini council going to take to complete the changeover to the new billing system? I have been phoning meter readings through every month for the past five years. Have not been able to do so for the past three months. No one answers. Looks like we will be another Johannesburg with totally incompetent operators trying to run a city. Denton, Durban.

Had to double up with laughter when I read about proposals to do away with one-way streets in favour of two-ways. Biggest load of goat droppings ever to come from the mouths of these numbskulls. Hello… here are about a million plus vehicles nowadays. This may have worked in the Fifties, but certainly not today. I suppose the taxis and buses will probably have dedicated lanes on the pavements then, seeing that some vehicles are using these already. Mr V.

Odds and ends

Car licence renewal forms can be downloaded from www.enatis.com Look under Popular Downloads. Remember when going to renew the licence you must take ID/driver’s licence and proof of residential address. And if going for someone else, you need a letter of authority, all the documents and both IDs.

The chilling picture of a dazed and bloodied 10-yearold Omran Daqneesh surely confuses and questions the existence of a Creator who stated, “Suffer the little children through into me”. Edmac.

Have other BackChatters noticed how beer advertising on TV has become increasingly and insanely stupid? They have so lost touch with reality that they are embarrassing to watch. In fact, I immediately do something else. M.

Where is the Lotto money? Why so much suffering, especially children? Whoever is responsible will pay. Aquarius Ogle, Newlands East.

Did anyone feel the joy I felt when there was no no Zakyeeya on Sunday, only cricket? Why does SABC torture us with that c*** and that woman?

The shacks opposite my house have illegal connections but their lights are on when my area is out. I see adverts telling us to pay our TV licences and I bet my last rand that none of the shack dwellers pay for TV licence. Richard.

Anne: Chad will not be invited to Phelps’ wedding. He may try to steal his golden girl. Daloo.

What an inspiring story on the front page (Wednesday). I hope all the campus students read this story. Instead of burning and damaging your campus, go finish your studies – that’s what you came to do. Problems can be sorted in a peaceful way. To Mr Ngcobo, I say well done. It’s never too late and may the Almighty make your dream come true. Sagran Govender.

There is an advert on TV that shows an anti-hail cannon being fired. I never heard of such a thing. Am assuming that this is a figment of some advertising company’s imagination. True or false? Am very curious.

Lawyers and insurance companies make billions from death on the roads. Death and injury claims and insurance premiums total billions of rands a year, with lawyers and insurance companies making huge profits. But when did you last hear of these lawyers and insurance companies supporting road safety? No, their profits come from death on the roads. Richard Benson, Road Safety Action Campaign, Cape Town.

Can anyone do something to get the lamps fixed outside the magistrate’s court and Post Office in Pinetown? For two years now, 12 poles are unlit at night. And when I phone about it, no one is interested. Help. Mossy.

Pleading for some help with refurbishing our pool at the Nurses’ Home at Addington Hospital. The pool has been in a pathetic condition for many years now and I hope some generous person will come to our aid. Thanks. Hopeful nurses.

And finally

Hello hello. Wonder what happened to Uncle Prem. Did the editor ban him from BackChat, or maybe he is on holiday?

?? ?? Two stories on the front page of the Daily News on Wednesday caught the eye of BackChatters: one says the article on the grandfather studying for his matric was inspiring; another decries the suggestion of returning to one-way streets in eThekwini.
