Man jailed for life after murder and violating a protection order

-

ZONGENZANI Sixtus Nyuswa, 47, of Sawoti, appeared in the Scottburgh Regional Court last week, where he was convicted of murder and the violation of a protection order.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and 12 years in jail for violation of the protection order.

Nyuswa is the former boyfriend of Nokulunga Mthembu, who had obtained a domestic violence protection order against him. Despite this, on October 25, 2015, he assaulted her and she ran for help. Her boyfriend, Siyabonga Khawula, 27, came to her rescue, but Nyuswa struck him with a bushknife on his head, killing him.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major-General Bheki Langa commended the court, saying: “I hope this sends a strong message to those who think of settling disputes by resorting to violence. Also, that the violation of a protection order carries a harsh penalty.” – Daily News Reporter
