Madam Mayor, how long we wait

-

AS MUSIC lovers, my daughter and I recently went to the Playhouse to listen to the rehearsal of the Glee show. Apparently, the Playhouse had been double-booked, so there was no rehearsal.

We took a walk to the City Hall to find out why the evening concerts had been moved to the Playhouse, and were told the roof had holes in it which were waiting to be repaired.

My question to the mayor in this regard is to let us know how long the “waiting” will be and who will do this very specialised job?

We do not want to see our spectacular hall fall into disrepair.

The art gallery has apparently also been closed, because of the holes in the roof. How’s this job going?

We then walked across to Medwood Gardens where we used to spend lovely lunchtimes in our youth. The small tea garden must have been closed for at least 20 years. Now you should see the litter piling up.

Please, Madam Mayor, why? And the Medwood swimming pool, where many of us learned to swim, is now empty and has clothes lines strung across it with municipal workers’ washing drying on it.

The walkabout ended at the Bat Centre. This is also showing signs of wear and tear. Why is this venue not being marketed in the name of tourism?

And please tell us what Transnet is doing about the old Fish restaurant situated at the Point Yacht Club area, now forlorn, doors hanging open, and a general eyesore to a supposedly first-world marina. N VAN DEN BLINK
