Blood donor criteria
ACCORDING to the SANBS, in order to be a blood donor a person must meet the following basic criteria:
You need to be between 16 and 65 years old.
You need to weigh at least 50kg.
You need to live a safe lifestyle.
You need to eat something before your donation.
You need to be healthy on the day of your donation.
You need to consider your blood safe for transfusion to another patient.
Blood donors are encouraged to donate on a regular basis and in most instances can donate blood every 56 days.
