Shooting suspect arrested

AN intelligen­ce-driven police swoop on the notorious Glebelands hostel ended with the arrest of a 30-year-old suspect linked to several shootings.

The operation was carried out by members of the Provincial Task Team, the ETHEKWINI Outer South Cluster Task Team and UMLAZI Visible Policing, and was aimed at eradicatin­g illegal firearms, searching for wanted suspects and stolen items.

The suspect, arrested last week, was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with 44 live rounds of ammunition.

A Toyota Etios that was stolen in the Umbilo area in April was also recovered.

“The suspect was linked to the shooting at the hostel on June 4, where two men were shot while visiting a friend,” said police spokespers­on Colonel Thembeka Mbhele.

“He is also linked to another shooting on June 9, where a 28-year-old man was shot and injured while walking at the hostel.” – Daily News Reporter
