Bias rife among certain journalists

-

THE letter ‘Accepting all cultures with their differences’ by Vinesh Rooplall (Daily News, November 10) refers.

He alludes to “bias against the Hindu community”.

In my opinion it is not only certain letter writers who are “biased against the Hindu community”, but also certain journalists.

A good example of this was the article “Animals bear the brunt of Diwali celebrations” by Se-Anne Rall in the Daily News of October 21.

Surely if she had been a little more objective, the journalist would have realised it was not the celebration of Diwali that caused the dogs such trauma, but the use of excessively loud fireworks.

Let us wait and see if she or other Daily News journalists attribute the excessive drunken orgies, stabbings, car accidents, murders, rapes and drownings that go hand-inhand with the festive season to the abuse of alcohol or to the Christmas celebration.

As for his plea for people to accept “differences”, we Hindus must also take a good look at ourselves.

Don’t some of us, like stuck records, repeat the lie that “all religions are the same” or, even more ludicrous, “all religions teach the same thing”.

They don’t. This happens because Hindus fail to read other scriptures. If they did, they would never utter such falsehoods.
