Taxpayers end up picking up the tab

-

WE READ of issues with the Airports Company South Africa chief executive, the chief executive of the Public Investment Corporation facing suspension, VBS Bank under the spotlight for irregular procedures and loans to directors with non-specific terms, state enterprises Eskom, SA Airways, Prasa, the SABC all dysfunctional, and municipalities having qualified audits, with irregular tenders, corruption, and failing to pay water and electricity bills to Eskom and water suppliers.

And now the Auditor-General’s staff being threatened while working in the councils – not a pretty picture.

And now the call is to nationalise the reserve bank and to have a state bank.

Is this to have a new piggy bank for the elite to dip into?

Excuse my scepticism, but business ethics and financial acumen do not exist in the aforesaid entities, so on what basis will a nationalised reserve bank and state bank not be an extension of the corruption and plunder that exists in the government?

But then there’s always the taxpayer to pick up the tab. ROLAND FISHER
