Thinking generation a counter to rhetoric

- REKHA PREMSHAND Phoenix

WITH reference to the letter “DA regards Indians as low-hanging fruit” (Daily News, January 30), by Juanita Singh, it is sad, if not disappointing, that a generation that carries the baton of our hopes has to strike out at a party like the DA – but it is a reality that is noted.

But one must understand the history of the DA – its current zest to unseat the ANC and its internal shenanigans – to know that the Indian community will be used, abused, ignored and remembered only for political expediency.

The tragedy is, the vast majority of Indians support the DA out of fear. Fortunately for us, Juanita Singh and many youngsters like her give hope there is a thinking generation, that will not be influenced, coerced or rail-roaded by the rhetoric of the DA only, because their “X” will be handy in the next few months.

Thereafter being relegated to the back burner.
