Good Sona speech, Mr President, however . . .

Dear Mr President Ramaphosa, while at the AU Summit please check with the rest of African heads of state as to why quite a lot of their own from East, North, West and Central Africa have left their homelands and very large, somewhat rich home countries and are now residing in South Africa? Some in abject poverty others haughty rich. Some honest to goodness hard-working and professional, others criminal, hardcore and corrupt. African Projects should be opportunities for business development and growth within Africa; not people moving or moving people. Thank you.

SONA 19

The attack by an EFF member on the police sergeant is a blatantly racist attack. In no way did the sergeant threaten Julius and his members. Just because he was a white man who restricted them entry because the area was out of bounds they reacted in that barbaric way. Down with these thugs. Down.

The real reason why Malema did not disrupt Sona 2019 is that one little lady, Shamila Batohi, was sitting in the gallery. | AK 48.

In his State of the Nation speech President Cyril Ramaphosa failed to mention the 100 people now dying daily from murder and road carnage and it is clear that measures to end road deaths, in particular, are not being implemented. With the general election less than three months away, which political party

Good Sona speech, Mr President, but from where I stand, the black South Africans are the only race that will benefit from it. What a tragedy for the other races of this country.

How could the SABC use presenters Steven and Sakhina to provide commentary on the dignitaries arriving at Sona? They had clearly done no research or preparation and were clueless as to the identity of most of the premiers, judge presidents and other important guests. Steven kept on referring to the ceremonial guards as “the soldiers” and speculated that their rifles (because of the bayonets) were possibly relics of early wars.

Disappointed in Sona. Nothing much was said about health and education. Just promises, no action.

EFF assaulted a plain-clothes cop in the parliamentary precinct and the video shows it was uncalled for. This bunch of delinquents now claims that it acted in that fashion because of a threat on its leader. There was absolutely no provocation and I hope the courts deal with these EFF bullies.

ODDS AND ENDS

It is so disappointing to see how the health-care system has gone down. RK Khan is now ruled by monkeys, jumping all over the patients, stealing their food and putting them through trauma. These monkeys can easily attack people when they don’t get what they want. This is not a new problem, complaints surfaced months ago. What has MEC Dhlomo and the chief executive of the hospital done about this? Did it have to take the Minister of Health to fly to Durban to solve this problem? One does not need “rocket science” to solve it. Common sense will tell you that mesh screens could have been installed on the windows, preventing the monkeys from getting in. Government authorities do not care because they go to private hospitals. | Gugu Mthembu, Athlone Park.

Amazulu FC must change the name and must be named Usuthu FC. The current name is inappropriate in these modern times. We are unable to associate ourselves with this team because of its name.

In Toti, why don’t police go to AA accidents when a person is injured? Why do so many staff go home and shop with government vehicles? Why no staff to paint the stop signs and put up speed signs? What happened to the cops that check vehicle speeds and vehicle lights? Why so many street lights not working? Why are people removing all doors etc from a building in the CBD and stealing from other shops and the police station is 500 metres away? | Buzz
