Fond farewell at KGC THIS evening the Members of the Kimberley Golf Club bid farewell to Tinus Venter … Green’s Manager, Director of Golf, Operations Manager, Junior Golf Mentor, SA Golf Development Board representative for the Northern Cape, President of the NC Golf Union, Board Member of the South African Golf Association – take your choice – he wore all hats concurrently.

From the average golfers’ perspective the endless grind and paperwork go largely unnoticed. What is most certainly noticed is the ever improving quality of the course, admired and respected by all who play the game. From a NCGU perspective, this fledgling body formed in 2014, has been almost single handedly moulded, shaped and administrated by Venter. From a Kimberley Golf Club point of view he leaves behind a string of tournaments in which to participate, a welltrained staff and the highest standard of course ever enjoyed through the Club’s 126-year history.

The farewell is centered around a family Putt Putt Competition on the expanded practice facility, that must be the envy of many golf club’s in the RSA. This extraordinary facility is just another reflection of his many achievements. It will be followed by a Casual Tea special braai on offer. A look at the past week JOHAN and Joanie Herselman returned 49 betterball points to win the Horseshoe Inn Wednesday competition. Siewert Wiid and Dries du Plessis were the runners-up, one point off the pace. By the skin of Mali Mananas pants Kassie Potgieter and Harry Hepburn received third prize on a technicality. Our look ahead FIRST off this afternoon will be the weekly Sun Flamingo Niner, followed by the snowball draw.

Tomorrow it is the final round of the Pennypinchers Winter Meat Challenge with outstanding prizes for the day as well as for the overall challenge based on aggregate scores through three rounds.
