Summit to review crime prevention

The summit is being attended by politicians, police, business leaders and other key figures in the fight against crime. The main purpose of the summit, being held at the AGS Tabernakel in New Park, is to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss ways of more effectively reducing the crime rate in the Province by re-examining the Provincial Crime Prevention Strategy (PCPS).
The PCPS was launched in September 2013 in Batlharos, in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, with the focus on reducing crime and generally improving community safety in the Northern Cape.
“Crime doesn’t just impact on victims but on society as a whole,” said Premier Sylvia Lucas.
“This strategy was adopted at an event that showed criminals that we are here to make a difference in the Province. We hoped to strengthen the relationship with stakeholders and reduce crime in all forms.”
Lucas explained that the need to review this strategy stems from the fact that criminals constantly refined their methods and became all the more sophisticated.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Risimati Shivuri, added that the two-day summit would also allow the various role-players to evaluate crime combatting efforts.
