New sponser for Griquas
AFTER two years of facing financial drought, Griqua Rugby has a new sponsor in the form of Tafel Lager, who has signed a three-year deal.
According to the managing director of Namibia Breweries Limited, Hendrik Wessie van der Westhuizen, the Griqua Rugby Union and Namibia have a long association which is closely linked to the same fundamentals.
Van der Westhuizen also said that Namibian rugby needed to do everything in its power to play in the prestigious Currie Cup and he believed that this sponsorship collectively added value to both Namibian and Griqua rugby.
Jannie Louw, president of Griqua Rugby, added that: “Today is certainly one of the greatest days in the history of the Griqualand West Rugby Union.
“This new sponsor is not only the largest sponsorship that the union has ever acquired, but it is also the beginning of an era where the union can position itself to compete at the highest level in South African rugby on a continuous basis.
“It was a long and tedious process to find the right sponsor and a business partner with international experience who can add value to our strategic plans.
“There is a close relationship between the people of the Northern Cape and Namibia.”
The team will, from now on, be known as the Tafel Lager Griquas and the stadium will be renamed Tafel Lager Park.
