“One suspect was also arrested and charged with domestic violence. Sixteen traffic fines were issued against vehicles which were not roadworthy or where motorist were driving without valid driving licences.

“A suspect was also issued with a fine after being found in possession of the carcass of a kudu.”

All suspects will appear before the Colesberg and Hanover magistrate’s courts today.

“The Northern Cape Provincial Commission­er, Lieutenant-General Peter Shivuri, commended police officers for executing their policing duties meticulous­ly and bringing the perpetrato­rs to book,” said Tawana.

Meanwhile in Hopetown, one suspect was arrested after copper weighing nearly 200kg was recovered on Thursday morning.

According to police spokesman, Captain Sergio Kock, local police acted on a tip-off regarding the theft of copper cable in Steynville.

“140kg of copper was recovered in a nearby veld. Further informatio­n led to a recovery of 40kg of copper wire that had been burnt (clean) with a value of about R11 000,” said Kock.

“A 44-year-old man was arrested for the possession of the 40kg of wire and was due to appear in the Hopetown Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen copper. The investigat­ion continues.
