NC leaders will renew ANC – Cosatu

-

dent Cyril Ramaphosa for the presidency of the ANC would be supported by the leadership and delegates of the Province.

“We see this provincial conference as the first step towards the election of Ramaphosa into the position of the president.

He pointed out that there were “rogue elements” within the organisation that needed to be “surgically removed”.

“We need to remind the incoming leadership that this provincial conference marks the beginning of a long and difficult journey of organisational renewal and cleansing the organisation with the sole purpose of regaining the confidence of the people in the ANC and the Northern Cape.”

He added that the recent reshuffle of the provincial cabinet was an “insult to the credibility and integrity” of the ANC.

“We maintain that the behaviour of the premier constitutes misconduct of the highest order which brings the organisation into disrepute and warrants stern action.”

SACP provincial spokesman, Patrick Bosiame, congratulated the ANC for holding a successful provincial elective conference and urged the party to unite and build the organisation.

“We encourage them to ensure that we rebuild our movement to be rooted amongst our people, the working class and the poor and that our movement reclaims the confidence of the masses of our people in our movement.”

The DA called on the new ANC provincial chairman, Zamani Saul, to “denounce his ties” with former ANC provincial chairman John Block, who was convicted of corruption and money laundering.

During his inaugural speech, Saul thanked Block for his contributions to the organisation and for “bringing the ANC in the Northern Cape to where it is today”.

DA provincial leader, Andrew Louw, stated that the reality was that Block had brought the Province to its knees.

“Block and his cronies robbed the Northern Cape government of millions of rands and, through continued influence within government, they continue to loot the state for their own personal gain. It is disappointing that Saul has chosen to publicly reinforce his ties to Block.

Freedom Front Plus provincial leader, Wynand Boshoff, found it surprising that the Sylvin group had withdrawn from the race.

“The Sylvin group repeatedly complained that the delegate lists were tampered with but she (Premier Sylvia Lucas) had to finally stare the elections in the face.”
