City nurse receives Excellence Award

-

MEDICLINIC Kimberley/Gariep professional nurse, Rachelle Schee per, was awarded the annual Nursing Excellence Award on International Nurses Day, celebrated on Friday.

Scheepers was honoured in recognition of the dedication she invests into caring for her patients in the community and supporting her colleagues.

Mediclinic spokeswoman, Denise Coetzee, said yesterday that the specific date was chosen as a global tribute to the profession that coincides with Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

“International Nurses Day allows us to celebrate the important work our nurses are doing,” Coetzee said.

Scheepers has been with Mediclinic for 17 years and works in the Neonatal ICU unit.

“She was selected as the Mediclinic Kimberley/Gariep 2017 award winner because of her com- passion towards patients as well as the mothers of the babies in the unit. She takes time to explain every detail that the parents need to know. She also shares her knowledge with the staff in the unit. We applaud her for her dedication to patients and her compassion for those in her care.”

Dr Estelle Coustas, Nursing Executive, Mediclinic Southern Africa, added that the hospital group’s Nursing Excellence Award was an opportunity to recognise those serving local communities across Southern Africa.

“The award is most significant because nominations are made by nursing peers who work tirelessly alongside each other ensuring the best possible patient outcomes,” she pointed out.

“While we take the time to recognise an individual nurse at each of our hospitals, I believe it is important to take the time to thank each nurse within our hospitals for their individual contribution to quality patient care.”
