A battle at the top and survival at the bottom of the PSL ladder

a R144 million state-of-the-art sports complex in Seshego, clearly indicating to all and sundry that the chairman is dreaming about his team playing in the top flight for ages to come. So dropping the ball here is out of the question.

As for Highlands maybe they have at last heard team coach Gordon Igesund’s exhortations and started to implement them. But that may be too late in the day to save their bacon.

Port Elizabeth based Chippa United have also officially joined the southbound queue to doom with last Friday’s 1-0 loss to the very same relegation threatened Highlands Park. Chippa may possibly be guilty of panicking in the sunset of the league. They have fired coach Dan Malesela for presumably underperforming.

Their last two matches without DanDan at Chippa’s helm have certainly not justified the club’s action against the coach with them almost guaranteed a slide down the long drop.

Last week’s results have completely turned around the fortunes of Baroka, Chippa and Highlands. The last two games come into sharp focus as they have now turned into make or break affairs for all three clubs.

Meanwhile, the tussle for top team status still continues without rest at the top of the PSL log.

Both championship title chasers Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns have, much against expectations, slumped into unpredictable form. They both took losses and near wins a fortnight ago and continued in that frame into the last week’s midweek fixtures.

As for Sundowns, they have exhausted the cushion of extra games that they had in hand, and now they are toe-to-toe with the Clever Boys for the top honours. Only two points separate Wits from Downs. A slip-up here by either of them could be costly.
